Slowly but surely....

..... this is turning into a knitting blog. I haven't meant for it to happen, but i've been so into knitting lately that i cant help it. And slowly but surely my deep v vest is coming along. I think i'm about 10 rows from the neckline, so the finish line is somewhat in sight. I was really hoping to have this done by the time i leave for boston (dec. 10th) and i'm going to try, but i keep setting goals and missing them. My poor viveka did not make its thanksgiving deadline.

Another day, another project

So here is what i started with last weeks supplies. Its a top down raglan sweater using this guide to help me.  It is going to be a christmas present for one of my sisters. Its definitely more of a spring sweater rather than winter. I'm really loving that green and white together, i may have to do something in that combo for  me!

I'm so happy that next week is thanksgiving! I will have time off from work and lots of time for knitting with my sisters! If I dont talk to ya'll before thursday, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

mail call!

Lots of fun stuff in the mail today!! Most of the yarn is from knitpicks but the black, white, and tan sock yarn is from epicurus on etsy. The sock yarn is going to be a pair of christmas socks. And the merino style is going to be a sweater i think. I really want to try a top down raglan. I found a pattern generator here. I was completely inspired by this post on knit and tonic. And i know that sweater is for a four year old, but i still think a striped sweater would be cute for me!

I mostly bought the knit picks yarns to test a few different styles, i've never ordered anything but sock yarn. I had heard good things on craftster about the merino style, so i ordered five skeins in different colors to try it out. I also ordered one ball of andean silk, very soft! And one ball of shine sport because i'm very interested in cotton yarn that can be good for something besides a wash cloth! I will probably be back later with project ideas and swatches!

Oh and i did decide to list my quilted pillow in my etsy shop so i made another pillow to match, in case people want two!

Fall!

Continuing my mission to bring small quilts into fun and useful projects, i have made this quilted pillow. The fabrics are from the moda line, cornucopia. This was also the first quilt that i have hand sewed the binding. I always take the easy way out because i dont like the idea of hours of hand sewing, but since this was a small project i decided to do the binding "right" and i loved it! Hand finished binding looks so much nicer than machined binding, why oh why did i not figure this out sooner!

I haven't decided yet if this will be listed in my etsy shop. I dont know if anyone else is into the same "granny chic" (tm sarafina) style and ideas. I really like comfyness of the quilted pillow and I think that the next project i do for me, will be some quilted pillow shams, probably using some of these fabrics. I am just in love with these fabrics!!

Houston Quilt Show

So i went to the Houston quilt show this weekend...... and the quilts were gorgeous. I wish i had pictures to show, but i forgot my camera!! I cant believe i did that. While i loved the quilts that were displayed and tons of fun, i was pretty disappointed in the retail section. I went with 150 bucks burning a hole in my pocket and i only spent 10 dollars, 10!! I still dont believe it. The first thing i bought were two fat quarters from Moda's Building Blocks collection . I would have bought the whole fatquarter collection had i known those were the only fabrics i was going to fall in love with. The second and last thing i bought was three yards of measuring tape trim from a great vintage notions booth. That booth was the best one out of the thousands, but everything was way too expensive. I wanted tons of all the trims but they were between 2 and 10 dollars a yard, i just cant spend that much money on trim, fabric sure, but not trim.

Another thing i noticed at the quilt show, nobody knows who Denyse Schmidt is. I mean everyone who is reading this, do you know Denyse Schmidt? I mean, i'm not crazy, she is well known, but i was searching for her fabrics at the show and NOONE knows who she is. This is what happens,

me: hi do you have any of denyse schmidt's fabrics? 

quilt lady: who? 

me: denyse schmidt, its a free spirit line, its called flea market fancy

quilt lady: oh  um well we have some free spirit fabric i think....

I just wanted to find the fabrics at the show because i hate paying shipping online, but since i didn't spend any money at the show, i can now go shopping online, hooray! Reprodepot, watch out!

And a little something i've made. This is a little quilted photo album. Its a wedding present for Pam, she had a dia de los muertos themed wedding this weekend. I've been trying to figure out more ways to incorporate quilting into different things. This little album is made like a normal sized quilt but on the back there are two pockets for the album to slide into, and then everything is bound together.
